While most of us keep some pesticides on-hand when we have a bug to kill in our home, it can be an entirely different scenario to have an infestation. If you’ve noticed you have a problem but aren’t sure if it’s time to call an exterminator, you might be able to get away with waiting in some cases. There are three instances, however, that always require a call to a professional:

1. Roaches – There are lots of different types of roaches, but you never want to have them in your home. The lowliest of bugs, roaches can live virtually anywhere and eat anything, making them equipped for survival. Calling an exterminator is the best way to prevent roaches from taking over your home.
2. Bed Bugs – Bed bugs always warrant a professional because they can easily be spread from one place to another. Bed bugs usually present in the form of bites found on your skin when you wake up in the morning, and black spots on the sheets indicating their presence. An exterminator will need to fumigate your entire home if you have bed bugs.
3. Spiders – Spiders are usually harmless in a home but can be bothersome if they get out of hand. Some spiders, like the brown recluse, don’t want any trouble, but can make you very sick if they bite. You’ll want an exterminator to apply the proper treatments if you believe you have a spider infestation.
